We`ve just bought new phones for hom. Theyre the type that can block nuisance calls but you need to sign up with r provider which for us is BT. Can anyone give me an idea of how much this costs and does it actually work ! Thanks

Yes, you still get some illegal foreigners ringing. It's actually hard to be sure where someone is actually calling from nowadays because the scammers can (and do) falsify Caller ID to get round call filters. Lately they have been faking nonexistent International Numbers. We get routine legitimate Withheld Number calls from foreign-sounding people....

thanks for your answer. Are you saying that the calls will still come through but because it displays the number, its up to you to answer it or not. I thought it would stop them being able to get through at all and leave a message if you were not at home. I dont want to disconnect my answerphone everyday when Im at work
We have the samee BT service and yes, the calls still come through. They rarely leave a message though.

Thanks both. Sorry Im a bit ignorant on this but can you only report 0843 numbers if you are registered with this service then and if so how do you do it
Have you registered with TPS ??

I did register with them many years ago and it did seem to help at first but not anymore. We are getting about 3 of these calls a day and some leaving messages. Its so annoying which is why we bought these phones but nievely didnt realise you would have to register and pay for the service
We're registered with the Call Prevention Registry - we find it better than TPS. It does cost you £49 p.a. but nuisance calls have almost disappeared, and if any do get through, we have a call blocker now so those numbers are blocked for the future. It still doesn't stop the foreign calls but those are few and far between these days. CPR lets you register a mobile number too, so I can report those too.

Thanks Boxtops, thats interesting. We havnt decided which way to go yet or if its worth it, but will look into everyones comments. Thanks all x
Practically all cold calls stopped when I changed my number a couple of years ago, presumably because it was not on any lists that companies sell on. I now never put my land line number on anything. I use my mobile number if I have to leave a contact number and so far have had no trouble.
