Anyone with advice on security cameras.

We had a spate of garden pot thefts last year from right beside our front door. There has been other vandalism in the past too.

Last evening when we returned home around 10.15 pm the electric box door was wide open. Its right beside the front door!!
Its always locked except when the meter is read. The last reading was the end of May!

Were on a complex for over 55's and we are at the end where it is very open and quite near the road.

After last years thefts the estate installed security cameras but none that cover our front door area.

We would like now to install our own as I am quite nervous now but don't know what to buy.

Any advice would be most welcome.

A simple bullet camera (got mine from ebay for 29.99 new), 2nd hand video recorder for £6 (car boot) and a 12" telly (car boot again ). Camera comes with 20 mtrs wire, power supply and scart plug. Set video on long play, use a 3 or 4 hr tape. This will record for 6 to 8 hrs. Its all plug and play, not difficult... Just make sure video has 2 scart sockets and telly has at least one... Plug and play.... Easy enough

v useful

we are in a rather ratty pt of Manchester and they are common place
Depending on exactly what you want and your budget, you could "gen up" on Maplins site - or visit one of their stores:

It was quite a lot but my CCTV cameras and recorder were £168
Not much for peace of mind. We have a camera covering the front door, one watching the car and one pointing up the road (private roadway). The recorder keeps all footage for nearly a month.
All from www.Maplin.co.uk
There are wireless versions available too but cost a little more.
