Will shaking my computer damage it? A micro SD card fell into the SD slot and now I can hear it rattling about. The SD reader has stopped working properly and I really need to remove this card. I tried prising it apart a bit, but I couldn't see inside enough.

Don't think it will do it much good....you need to take it to someone that can open and retrieve safely...
A gentle shake with it powered off isn't going to do it any harm, it is designed to be moved after all, but getting the card to slip out is a bit unlikely, if you're not handy with dismantling things then getting someone else to do it is your best bet.
If you turn it upside down, are there any 'doors' in the bottom?
What make and model is the laptop?

It's a HP pavilion dv6 . i cant find any doors on it
Is there a small computer repair shop near you? The big names are very expensive but a local one would probably only charge for half an hour.
If you are feeling brave, see if you can find the opening for the hard drive, remove the battery, remove the hard drive and see if you can worry out the hd card. The only other option is to remove the whole base but I wouldn't recomend that unless you know what you're doing.
