Hi Everyone
Just purchased the above television. The picture quality is second to non but the SOUND is shocking, it sounds like a transister radio that you can purchase for a pound. We bought this TV from John Lewis so i know that they would exchange it. Has anyone bought this TV, could you give me your opinion on the sound quality as i dont know if my TV has a sound fault. It is impossible to listen to it without surround sound. Please advise.

Have you looked at the audio settings

I assume you have the user manual...

if not...

Sorry, phone lost connection before I finished previous post.

Assuming its not broken (in which case theyll replace it) it sounds like its not set up correctly

Hi bazwillrun, yes we have the manual. Im looking at it now. On page 40 of the manual the second section clearly states "nicam" but on the tv there is no reference to nicam so im thinking that our model has no Nicam Stereo, This TV makes me cringe without the surround sound on
Why not just leave the surround sound on then, or am I missing something?

I should not have to keep the surround sound on to get a decent sound out of a new TV. If you could hear the sound on the tv you wouldn't say that. It's not that it's an average sound, it is cringeworthy, as though there is something missing........ like speakers.
Return it as not fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act.

Who did you buy it from?

We bought it from John Lewis. It would be great if someone had the same TV and could tell me if they have the same problem then i would know if the tv had a fault or its just an awful sound, as i said, the picture is great
There are plenty of reviews online. Some mention poor sound quality, others say the sound is excellent.

John Lewis has excellent customer service. Give them a call.

Did you buy it online? When did you buy it?
Take a look at: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/tvs/panasonic-tx-l47e5b-review-50007673/

I can see in that article that there are some audio settings to do with wall distance settings etc, maybe worth checking.
Scroll down to the "In this review" panel
Click on '4' Audio Quality,

^^^ Snap! ^^^
On your remote control click on MENU, scroll down one to SOUND, scroll right to the choice of settings; first is MODE, then BASS, TREBLE,BALANCE, (Headphone volume), and SPEAKER DISTANCE FROM THE WALL. Experiment with these and you should be able to get what you want.

We have had the set since last wednesday which i purchased over the phone. I really dont know what to do, do i just leave the surround sound on all the time or do i send it back for a replacement but then will the replacement be the same. This is why i hoped that someone on Answerbank owned this TV and could give me their opinion
We've got a similar Panasonic model, I seem to remember that when it came out of the box, it sounded carp until the sound was set up properly using the onscreen menu, since then no probs.
If you've done this then maybe there is a fault, if you think so, speak to John Lewis and they'll advise you, afterall they don't want unhappy customers!
This is the last day you can return the tv under the Distance Selling Regulations.
You will be entitled to a full refund but you must telephone them now, otherwise you will be out of time.

So you have three choices:
Keep the tv and use surround sound all the time

Contact John Lewis and tell them the tv is faulty and you want a replacement or refund under the Sale of Goods Act

Contact John Lewis today and tell them you are rejecting the goods under the Distance Selling Regs and get a full refund.

Rosie, you have been asked, but haven't answered, have you tried changing the sound settings from the menu?
Have you tried what I suggested on my post, 12:59 above?

Sorry, i had someone call round. Yes khandro and sipowicz, i have done all that and it is still awful, whatever i put the settings on it does not alter the sound. iv tried EVERY different setting. One more thing to add is that when i went back into my lounge after saying goodbye to my company, THE TV HAD SWITCHED ITSELF OFF. It went onto standby. It just gets worse.
"Auto standby" is a setting that comes in if no controls are used during a set time, YOU can change it; 1 hours, 2 hours etc, you sure you've read the handbook?
