A dumb question! I have new HP Pavillion laptop but I can't figure out how to open the lid! There was a previous question on Answerbank couple of years ago but wasn't any help. I can't find any switch to slide, push, pull. Please help!

A lot of new laptops don't have a latch, you just lift the lid up.

Without a model number it's a bit hard to say for sure though.
