I had to reload my Windows XP but have no sound --I used to get a few notes when start up but now nothing--I have tried but I have not even got the Vol.icon on the task bar. Please help or will I have to get the professionals in.

Have you re-installed the motherboard and other drivers?
You simply need to reinstall the sound driver. The setup file should be on the disk which was supplied with your motherboard (assuming, of course, that you've got such a disk and that you're not using a separate sound card).

If you've not got the disk you'll need to determine which motherboard you've got, and then download the driver from the manufacturer's website. (Again, that assumes that you're using 'onboard sound', and not a separate sound card).

The easiest way to find out which motherboard you've got is to download, install and run Belarc Advisor:

Thank you both Rojash and Chris----I found a disc with my bits and bobs Drivers and Utilities and now have sound. Do not know where I would be without answerbank--Thats me till the next problem I hope I have them all done now. Did the Belarc advisor as well but that may have been beyond me but thanks for all your help
