Need a free antivirus, tried AVG but it tells me that my windows is not supported ( it thinks its windows 2000, its actually /XP). anyone know one that won't slow the computer too much?

Microsoft security essentials
It's good and it'sfree
Have been running Avast free edition on 2 commuters for about 2 years now with no problems at all.
I use free version of AVG with my Windows XP - not probs at all. Much better than Avast -tried that and it caused PC to slow right down so changed back to AVG pretty smartly!
Avast is o.k. but my experience of the free version is that almost every few days it is necessary to up-date it. Consequently, I go along with Sonyme.

I have MSE on my computer, as I think the majority of AB's Techie members have. It a straightforward download:-

Sorry, I meant to say AVG, not Avast, which is also free: but, in my opinion, does not come up to MSE.
