I have a brand new 40 inch UMC tv set. and want to connect my old video/dvd player to it but cannot seem to get it right. there appears to be 2 programmes going on at once, merged together, or picture from one programme and dialogue from another. There is only one scart socket on the tv set Does anybody know what I have to do to sort this out. Thank you if you can help.

If you are trying to connect two separate items to the TV via scart then you need a scart splitter so you can select which machine is playing. Something like this should do the trick - Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

I have a scart splitter but this does'nt work either. Any more ideas.
Have you actually set the TV to take it's input from an external device? (Some TVs automatically switch when there's an external device connected but not all of them do). Check that the TV is set to show 'AV', 'Ext', 'Aux', Line in', or something similar, and NOT to any numbered channel.
