messenger pop ups

Can anyone tell me why, and how i get rid of the annoying pop ups i keep getting, saying "messenger service" "your computer is infected with spyware" etc etc.

Start > Run > type "services.msc" (without the quotes).
If this doesn't work, run "Services" from the Control Panel. It should be under Administrative Tools.

Right click on "Messenger" and choose Properties.
Click Stop and also set the Startup Type to "Disabled".
The "Your computer is infected with spyware!" message is an irritating ad popup. Use a decent pop-up blocker, like the one built into Firefox, or the Google toolbar or something and see if this solves the problem.
