How do I stop MSN pop ups from appearing

Basically, I have windows VIsta and I keep getting MSN pop-ups. I have trawled the internet for solutions and they all suggest opening the services and disabling it from here...I have tried this, but messenger is not in services as they say it should be. Can anyone offer advice as to how to stop these annoying messages please? Thanks!

Get rid of MSN totally, I did and I don't get any kind of virus either....
