Not sure if this is the correct thread, but here goes. My Orange mobile is on contract and I am due for a new free phone next month. Instead of using this new free phone as a replacement for the Orange mobile I already have, could I use it instead by changing the SIM to use in my pay as you go T Mobile which is getting really old and embarrassing now? Its not a Blackberry just a bog standard mobile that I will be getting.

Hi, I think you will probably need to get your new phone unlocked first (usually about £10). Once it's been unlocked it should then work ok with any sim card.

Obviously I will ask at the Orange shop, but will they mind and am I allowed to use it for another network ?
Not really. it's not your phone until the contract is up so if it is locked orange won't unlock it for you, the bloke on the local market with the phone accessory stall would though.

It's worth just trying a different sim in the phone though, as often contract phones are not locked to one network. Otherwise, why not use the old orange phone as a replacement for the t-mobile one? (or is that even worse? :) )

Well my OH is even less technical than I am, he has just got used to the Orange phone we have and a new one would just confuse him even more, especially as it is a touch screen (I've already checked what i can have) , that's why I want it instead !
