E-mail received with photos attached which the sender had not attached.

I have today received an e-mail (via Yahoo) which had several jpg photos as attachments. The sender had made no reference to them in his e-mail and when I opened them, I could see why - the photos were nothing whatsoever to do with the sender of that e-mail. They were photos which had been attached to various other e-mails I had received in the past (not from that person). How on earth did these photos come to be shown as attachments to the e-mail I received today?
