When do you put your Christmas decorations up?

First or second weekend in December for us usually. I'm a school cook and xmas dinner is my busiest (and most stressful) time of the school year so until I get that out of the way I can't even think about Christmas. It's on the 2nd Dec this year so will prob put the decs up that following Saturday, still a bit early but I can start to look forward to it by then.

It's def too early to have them up now!!!

Morning pinki. Yes, it's another American habit that seems to have found its way over here. How people can afford to deck out their houses I really don't know. Now that gas and leckie have gone up perhaps we'll see fewer of them this year.

I agree with pikilady, put em up the night before and take em down day after boxing day, or better still dont bother with them at all.

Or as we do now , take a small led xmas tree out of the box plug it in when finished put back in the box. And that is all we do .Simples.

About the 17th. There's a house round the corner that's had all the lights up for over 2 weeks already.

I've just come back in and the neighbours have their xmas lights on!

I can't be bothered with the hassle of it all so I don't put any up. I will do next year though as my little boy will be 18 months and it will be nice for him to see them.

Certainly not before Dec 1! I was in Manchester in the week and their street lights are all lit - seems a bit early, ours are next week.

when we lived in the US decs went up the weekend after Thanksgiving, so the first weekend in December which is what we still do.

With the ones that put it up at a certain time, is there any significance with the date chosen or is it just a "feel the time is right" thing?

I like to have them up and enjoy them for a while otherwise you've only just got the last ones up when its christmas. OTOH I do like to enjoy autumn before winter so the first week of December seems about right.
