Facebooks suggested friends

I am wondering how come a relative's name and facebook page appeared at the side of my wall, as a suggested "friend". Ditto someone who I was at college with. Please don't tell me that Facebook can access my contact list in Windows Mail. Or is it simply when someone looks you up on Facebook, then the connection is made?

Have you allowed Facebook to search your email address book? It asks permission to find your friends.
If you have refused, then it is obvious that your friends have allowed Facebook to search their address books and your email address was there.

I havent let Facebook search my email address, so it must be as you say, they have allowed them to search their contact lists, I was just curious. Thanks for replying.

When you become friends with someone, you can suggest people that you have as friends, that they know aswell, they then get a message saying that they probably know each other and do they want to be friends, which is what you've got.
