I am trying to set up a wireless network for just 2 computers, a desktop and a laptop. I have got an ADSL router (802.11g) and the matching pc card for the laptop. I do not have an ethernet port on my desktop pc but was told that all I need to do is get a usb wireless adapter for it, so I got a matching one of those as well. I set everything up after a bit of head scratching, with the laptop's ethernet to configure the router, and the set the usb adapter up on the desktop. Everything went ok, with both computers accessing the internet but now I have reset the laptop as a wireless machine it won't get on the internet. Does one of the machines need to be wired up (by ethernet) to the router, 'cos if so I'll have to get a ethernet card for the desktop.(can you get a usb ethernet card??).

Any advice would be great as I've been on this for 4 hours now and starting to loose my marbles.

Teabag,

if you have a wireless router then you don't need either PC turned on in order to access the internet.

If the laptop shows it's connected to the wireless network then everything should be ok, if not then you may need to reset the router as the connection may have dropped.

Hope this helps.
