Anyone fancy testing something for me?

As some of you may know, I am quite into artificial intelligence and have recently entered a competition to write a computer program that can create original jokes and poems.

I wondered if any of you would be so kind as to test it before the actual judges get to it, so I can see where it need work.

Most of the jokes it creates will be pretty bad and the poems pretty surreal but we are being judged more on our program's capability to actually produce some material than the humour content.

To test it, please say "tell me a joke about ....." and then a subject or "tell me a poem about .....". It works better if you use nouns, so "Tell me a joke about a dance" will work better than "Tell me a joke about dancing".

At the moment, if it can't create a joke about the subject you enter, it will fall back on a few default jokes/poems.

To test it, click here:

(By the way, it doesn't know about Answerbank and so won't be able to make one up for that)

Thanks for any help. I will get to see any logs that it produces and so can amend it if a few of you are kind enough to test it.

I can't find the bit to get it started (sorry for being stupid).
OMG how clever is that!

No worries. It should display a red screen with a disclaimer saying something along the lines of "if you swear at it, it will be mean to you". Just click on "click here to agree". It will then load and display a message saying "type your message here". If you then put in something like "tell me a joke about shoes", it should generate a joke.

You will need flash player in order for it to work.
lol
2 blokes walk past a gravestone and one says my god this guy was 182
wow says the other one, what was his name?
miles from london....

excellent, mind you i did ask for a joke about the US elections lol
Very good squarebear
I'm on an iPad so maybe that's the problem.
Question Author
Thanks dotty. Unfortunately, it doesn't know the noun "elections" but it soon will. Thanks for testing. I have put in as many nouns and attributes I can think of and just need people to now test it out as there is always something I haven't thought of.

It is supposed to use the vocabulary of a 12 year old and so I guess I missed out on "election".
Question Author
yes, that's it. Ipad doesn't use flash. Thanks anyway though
awwww, i typed, 'I have to go goodbye' and it replied 'bye dot' awww
It's a bit like AKINATOR then ?
Question Author
You guys are the best. About 15 or so of you have tested it already. I really appreciate it thanks you.

It looks like it has handled them all apart from elections and starship.
We had a bit of a chat and it told me a joke about the dentist. I can see it might become as cheeky as a couple of your other creations I've met SB.
it's abit like the ebay virtual chat thing actually. but with a pleasanter manner
It just keeps saying click to go back .....
Question Author
Not really, Akinator is coded to play 20 questions where my program creates jokes based on attributes of objects.

Say for example the object you ask about is blue, like the sea or sky, it will take the word blue and come up with something like, "Why was the sky sad? - Because it was feeling blue!" or if it is a musical instrument, it will say something like "Why did the piano/drum/guitar lean against a wall? - because it was musically inclined!".
Very clever

Anne - nothing I have coded will say "click to go back". Where does that come up? Can you see the top part with the green numbers going up the screen, as I seem to remember you don't have Flash on your PC.
Well I had a go but it couldn't seem to understand what Wednesday meant! I asked if it was going to rain in Gloucester on Wednesday but it said it will be sunny today. Good idea though SB ..................
Question Author
Thanks Anne but it was really designed to invent jokes/poems and probably won't be able to tell you the weather forecast :-)
Hilarious. I have taught it what 'bedtime' means.
