I have just sold a large item on E-Bay for the first time. The buyer is coming to my house and will pay on collection. Now I'm worried incase the notes are forgeries. What can I do? He's coming tomorrow! Should've done PAYPAL but too late now. Should I be worried?

Had you flogged it instead in a local paper would you be worried someone was going to collect and pay cash ?

Any sale might result in a problem, but I can't see it pays to assume the worst. If the notes seem genuine to you, they probably will to the shop/bank/building society too.
Simply do what you'd do if anyone else was paying you cash for something:
Apologise for being suspicious but carefully check the banknotes, using the techniques explained by the Bank of England here:
http://www.bankofengl...knotes/kyb_lo_res.pdf

If you've still got any doubts, ask to see some ID (such as a driving licence or a bank card).

Most people are honest!

Thank you Buenchico & Old_Geezer. I wasn't worried until a friend found the buyer has a 2nd address in Nigeria and it kinda made me scratch my head But shall ask for ID & hope the deal is ok. (I agree kobo, in this instance tho' I hope yr wrong!) Bloody sweating here!

You should never accept PayPal if you allow collection for an eBay item.

The seller could claim he never received the item. PayPal ask you for proof of delivery (not proof of posting) and if you can't provide a tracking number the buyer will get his money back, regardless of any other proof you have, such as signatures, photos, a bounced cheque.

If it is a large amount and you are worried he should be happy to provide proper id or accompany you to your bank to deposit the money.

hc4361, The bank's are shut on Saturdays. I WILL get him to print & sign for the goods & the amount paid for it and hope he has some form of ID on him. Can't see me getting any sleep tonight! Shall let you ALL know how it goes.
My bank isn't shut on Saturday. The Post Office would be able to verify the money for you.

Take his registration number and his photo if you are at all concerned.

I am sure all will be well, but it is good to think about these things.
I feel sorry for the bloke coming to buy the item tomorrow...sounds like you are going to ask him for DNA samples before you will let him go.

A Nigerian connection? Check those notes !!!
OMG - Money laundering!
Dna samples , photo , Photographic evidance of his own , finger prints , all bank notes checked for quality a well as qantity.

All for an item he could have purchased " and had delivered " without half this hassle.

still if you get him to walk you to bank , he could have the benefit of doing a bank job as well as being a mass murderer. lol

the best you can do is check the notes , im sure they will be fine though.
as for the second account in nigeria , well lets face it we have a lot of foreign workers in this country , so someone is bound to meet one or two at point.

if your honestly worried have a friend there at time of sale.

make a note of their car reg if you're worried.

although it'll probably have false plates ;o)
Eeek! Is he holding you hostage?
I am with johne on this one. Most people are totally honest, and would not dream of conning another decent human being. It is a very hurtful thing not to be trusted, but all I can suggest is to count the notes you are given, and then take the car number. Nothing in life is totally safe, and banknotes are very, very hard to forge.

As they say in the "Creature Comforts" video "You trust everyone once". If you do not trust someone then how do they have a chance to prove themselves to you?
lol at this thread. : )

What is it? An extremely large box .. and Fifty quid?
