My husband died on 6th February. When I checked his e mails this evening I found that he had loads of Mailor Daemon messages. Supposedly "he" had sent a one line web address to most of the addresses in his address book.
I've spent the last hour copying and pasteing addresses into e mails of apology to all these people.
How can this be happening and how do I stop it happening?
People usually spot it when the fake emails come in, they arent virus mails. Anyone who was concerned would have mailed or called you by now so dont worry yourself with mailing them all
So sorry for your distress Chrissa. I have also been getting the Viagra e-mails and also offers of penis extensions and I am a WOMAN !! I just delete these messages now without opening them and am now getting fewer of them.Hopefully they will stop in time.As you say. What a world we live in !!
Chrissa, it wouldn't be the first time that a spammer has supposedly sent messages from a person to all the address book. I would just delete them all - spam sadly happens all the time.
Chrissa, if you are worried about people receiving them and thinking your husband sent them then it might be an idea to just send a simple email out to all of his contacts explaining the situation. Then change the password and delete all the spam. I know it's distressing for you, unfortunately these things happen though. I hope you get it resolved x
Chrissa, I'm sure that your late husband's contacts are aware of these spam emails, and won't think for one minute that he sent them, try not to worry about it!.........as lots of other Abers have said, spam e mails happen often sadly!!............
It's coming from your husband's email account because there are some very clever (and deranged) people out there who can write programmes that allow them to hack others' accounts and send messages purporting to be from them. I had a number of messages from a very good friend whom I know couldn't have written them.
The only concrete thing you can do is cancel the account.
I've had this as well. Since I don't email a lot from the infected account I simply deleted my addressbook. With no list to use, the emails to people on the list stopped.
