Wasn't that when they raised it from 9?

Has anyone ever took any notice of the age of consent anyway? In the 20's onwards......?
9?!?! I thought 12 was bad enough.

Knowing McM, he's kidding.....?!!!
There used to be a saying "If they're big enough, they're old enough". I know this isn't very pc but children develop physically and emotionally at different ages so what is ok for a boy or girl of say 12 or 13 might not be right for a late developer of 16 or 17.
that's because up until 1926 (I think it was) girls could marry at 12 and boys at 14, which was a law inherited from when boys went into apprenbticeships and girls started work anyway, in a time when the life expectancy was about 45.

Girls could marry at 12 dotty? Wow, I genuinely did not know that....
yes they could, with permission from parent or guardian. unless they were widowed, and then they needed noones consent if they were still under 21
This is a page from the net on Ages of Consent Worldwide.
I llists ages of consent in various countries.but be warned some the (low) ages of consent may surprise AND shock you!

Children would have to mature and grow up from a much earlier age in the 20's I would imagine. By 12, they were likely working or looking after the household so in many ways forced to grow up far quicker than todays youth!
Though the legal age to marry did change by statute in the 1920s but it was rare beyond the early 1800s for people to marry that young , certainly the 1837 introduction of civil registration of marriage meant that parental permission for under 21 meant it was less common.,
male male sex is illegal in north cyprus not female female is ok?!?!?!
and the same for egypt?!?!?!?
molly,
I think in a lot of countries they don't really believe that Lesbians exist,or they have come to the conclusion that as women are always so emotional/close to each other it would be difficult to prove they WERE Lesbians!
