Partly because of a ruling from the European Court (which stated that Microsoft's practice of incorporating their web browser and email client into their operating system was anti-competitive) and probably partly just because they like to make every new version of Windows 7 harder to use than the previous one, Microsoft has not included an email client within Windows 7.

Use the solutions here, or (probably far better) download and use Thunderbird:
http://www.mozillames...om/en-GB/thunderbird/

Once you've got an email client you'll obviously need to configure it for use with your email account(s). If you need help, please post again, telling us what the last part of your email address (i.e. the bit after the @ sign) is.

Was hoping you'd be around Chris but your answer has shocked me - are you saying I have to download something weird myself? If I can add to the problem I have bought Office 2010 through a discounted works scheme becasue among other things I want to use outlook. Microsoft has sent me the link to download it to my work PC which I have e-mailed home but can't pick it up. my address ends in tiscali.co.uk
Aaagh! I've omitted the first link! SORRY!!!

Where I wrote 'use the solutions here', I should have inserted this link:
http://www.tomshardwa...windows-email-program

As you'll see, you can download Windows Live Essentials. Here's the direct link:
http://explore.live.c...e-essentials?os=other
Alternatively you can download just the email part of that suite of programs (Windows Live Mail):
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mail

Or, as above, you could simply use Thunderbird (which comes from the same developers as Firefox).

Thanks I'll have a look and download it overnight then I'll probably be back with the next problem!
Thanks for your reply. As I probably won't be around for most of tomorrow, I'll provide this link:
http://support.talkta...T0x&p_li=&p_topview=1
It shows you how to set up Tiscali email with Outlook Express. Yes, I know that you've not got Outlook Express, but (unsurprisingly) TalkTalk can't be bothered to update their website to tell you how to set up Windows Live Mail (or Thunderbird). However, as long as you can find the right button to create a new account, with one of those email clients, the information you require is in that link.

Sleep well!

Chris thanks I've used one of your links to download windows live and managed to set up my tiscali e-mail. To this address I have sent the link I got from work to the home use Office 2010 and this is currently taking up to 12 hours to download. Hopefully tmrw morning that will have worked and I can then set up the Outlook as my e-mail package? Can I then delete the Windows live stuff as i don't want it (MSN for example) clogging up my PC?
As long as you've been provided with one of the more complete versions of Office 2010, you'll have Outlook available to you. (Outlook isn't included in the 'Starter' or 'Home and Student' editions of Office 2010, but it's in the other five editions. Nothing's ever simple, is it?!).

Once you've got Outlook, you can set up your Tiscali mail account. You can then leave Windows Live Mail (and any other Windows Live Essentials programs) unused on your PC, or delete them if you so wish.

Amen to that!

Can I ask an extra question, with this new laptop when people post youtube links on here I now can't see or play them, just get an empty box with a small icon with a red, green, blue & yellow blob in (too small to see really) in the top left corner. Is that something else that's not included and needs downloading???
So what version of ... I presume .. Internet Explorer is it? ( Help/About tab)
Go into Browser Settings .. In Tools/Internet options/Security .. what is showing for Internet security? Medium-High? That should be ok.
Go here and install latest Flash Player .. Adobe .. We all need this on the web. That will make sure latest is installed tp play Youtube content and a lot more. Uncheck that McAffee scan thing.

Will look here tomorrow lunch to see how you're doing!
Night for now x Al.

Many thanks. can't do anything at the mo because the Office is still downloading but will look tmrw. Nite xxx
Any news then?
Are you using Outlook?
Question Author
Well don't ask grrrr! Thanks first about Adobe, can see the links now. The Office download had crashed in the night so I started it again this morning and after 4 hours the same with message along lines of 'operation timed out'. I'm wondering if it's our awful BB speed (estimated time was 12 hours) so going to take laptop to work tmrw and see if it will download quicker there. Sorry I missed you earlier x
Hi x
No problem. I am a patient man.

Hi back x
Took less than half an hour at work so have my outlook up and running but actually don't like the look of it. Wanted what I had on old laptop which was 2003? Won't send either but I'll get IT to sort it tmrw. Other than that I'm pretty sorted except haven't done anything about transferring files, photos etc yet
Great! ..
Later Outlook can be "adjusted" to look better. It's "different" to use to start with. You have those panels on LHS .. but persevere. : )
Prewdy. I guess from your posts that you are very old and resistant to change. Do you live in a cave?
