I normally suggest that people simply move their my documents folder to the D drive in this situation.

If you move the my documents folder then all your pictures, documents, music etc etc should be moved and also any application that wants to save into my documents by default will still do so and will save to the D...

Launch Explorer (hold down Windows Key and press e).
Select the files you want to move by clicking /shift clicking/ ctrl clicking as appropriate.
Select Edit -> Copy
Highlight the destination folder on D:
Select Edit -> Paste.
When they're all across to D: delete the originals.

Thanks vagrant - sounds a bit complicated for my old brain but have written down your answer and will give it a go. I appreciate your help very much, thank you.
Note ONLY move personal files from C to D.

Dont move any Windows files or system files

If you do then your computer will probably stop working, or not boot up next time you turn it on.
"File management" (which is what moving files is), is a lot harder to explain than it is to do.

Basically you open a window showing the folders on your C drive, then open another window showing the folders on your D drive.

Then you basically COPY the files from one window to the other.

It is best to COPY them first (like Vagrant says) just in case the first move does not work.

Once you KNOW they have been copied succesfully to D then delete them from C.

If you are not to sure about this try copying one file at a time first till you get the hang of it, then as you get more confident copy many files, then eventually whole folders.
hi shaking,
i moved my music files over to my d drive from my c drive to free up some space, and this is all i did:-
1) find the file(s) on your c dive that you want to move over
2) click to 'highlight' the file
3) click on 'edit' at top left of screen
4) select 'move to folder'
5) select 'my computer'
6) select 'd drive'
7) click on 'move'
the file will now have moved from your c drive to d drive
hope this helps along with vagrants answer :o)
