vga to hdmi laptop to tv lead

My laptop has a VGA socket and Im wondering if I can just but a vga to hdmi lead and watch my laptop on my tv.
Im pretty sure that it would be to easy that way and there is something Im missing

Can anybody help me, my tv also has scart sockets but nothing else

Before anyone says it yeah, I just bought the wrong laptop I think :(

it's not quite that easy. you need a converter as VGA and HDMI are very different format.

Though are you sure your laptop hasn't got a TV out on it, then you can plug it into the scart with the correct cable.
