I have just added a 160 gb to my spare computer and whilst Bios recognises the HD windows will not.
Using XP Pro.
The hard disc trouble shooter says it is working OK.
I know that it needs to be formatted but the OS wont load FDISK.
Any suggestions as to what to do next ?

You probably need to make the partition(s) on the new disk active.

Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Disk Management

...check the status of the listed volumes and activate where necessary.
I presume that you have altered the jumpers on the new drive to slave settings. You may also have to alter the jumpers on the older drive to master as they are usually set as cable one drive.
