I have an icon on the bottom right of my screen which keeps flashing a message saying that 'System has detected Spy-Ware' on my system & to download a program to remove it.

How do i get rid of this?

If it helps, the icon is a blue circle with a white question mark inside.

Ok well it means that you have managed to download some type of spyware or malware, The best thing to do to start off with is look through your Add/Remove programs in the COntrol Pannel and remove anything that looks like it could have been installed with out your knowledge (This is usually search bars).
Once you have done this go to this link and follow its instuctions. I know it might not be the same spyware but it will remove it :)

This is mal-ware you have picked up from somewhere. You need to get something like AVG to scan and remove it. Don't click on the symbol or you'll be getting even more rubbish. The irony of it is that it's telling you you have rubbish in your system but it's rubbish they've put there themselves.
avg antispyware should remove this and most other spyware for you.Download here and update and run. ( its freware and trusted)
