If my mobile phone was turned off, for a few months say, and I was sent texts within that time, am I still able to retrieve them at a future date?

They are stored for a certain length of time, but a few months may well exceed this time so you'll lose the messages.

when a person sends a text their phone will set the validity time, most are 7 days, although you can set it to hours
so no you wont recieve them months after they were sent
