Just bought a DVD rewriter. I have a few movies on my PC in .avi format. What format do I need, to play DVDs in normal DVD player and what do I need to convert the .avi files?

nero is best to convert and burn your avi files in to a watchable format.

Thanks Mattk, I just checked out the Nero disc that came with the rewriter and it looks like I have to buy a plug-in to convert the files. Thanks anyway.
Have you tried them in avi format? Our dvd recorder plays avi files
Hiya Liz

I usually use Convert X to DVD. Refer to question above if you'd like a copy.

Sorry Garamond, I'm not sure what question you are referring to, but I'd love a copy of the programme. Liz
Save time and bandwidth by buying a divx player you can pick them up for 20 on ebay these days, they will play avi films and many more formats. And if fo example you wanted to back up your films they are only around 700 mb each in size and often nearly as good quality. 1 film will fit (and play) on a normal cd/r. Or you can stick 6 or 7 films on a dvd/r. Hope this helps, just another option for you.
