Sony vaio VGN S5XP/B, screen size gone smaller

The display desktop screen on my sony has gone smaller with bars on the sides (reduced by about 40%). I am now squinting to read whats on the screen. How do i stretch or make the display full size. Tried everything but the jargon on this sony products is just atrocious. help please.
