I have Norton anti-virus installed. However, it does not appear to be running in the background, and the email scanner is not functioning. I'm on XP. When I launch Norton manually it does the job just fine but at the end of the scan it reverts to just being an icon to click on. Any idea what I need to do to get it back up and running again?

Thank you.

Check ur system status is ok, auto protect is on and that email scanning is turned on.

Already done that, thanks btbb! It says e-mail scanning needs urgent attention, but it's all set up to scan e-mails and no amount of unchecking and checking the boxes will reset it, and everything else is as it should be.

The virus scanning works perfectly when I launch it. My problem is that Norton does not seem to be running in the background, as it used to, detecting the viruses before they get in or scanning the e-mails in a preventative way.

Have u clicked on help and support in the top right hand corner of the status page??

Just done that - thank you. Found a link for technical support and troubleshooting, which is telling me my version of Norton is not supported and is out of date! I'm asked to upgrade!

My subscription is due for renewal soon so I'll see what I'm offered then. I have AVG running at the moment so I'm not completely without protection!

Thanks for your help btbb.
