How do I stop this

Thanks in advance - I believe its an alt plus another button but which one? It's driving me mad!

You pressed insert accidentally. Press it again to undo

Press 'Insert' to disable overwrite mode.

Are you in “overtype” as opposed to “insert” mode?
Your keyboard should have a key to toggle between them
