I was utterly speechless just now in Lidl. A little girl, no older that a year, drinking a can of regular Coca Cola. She was accompanied by two people, only one of whom could really be the parent. The young girl was about 14 or 15 but the chap with them was late forties, early 50s. They were ROUGH... It's anyone's guess whose daughter she was, but I could not believe that between them they thought it was a good idea to give a can of coke to such a young infant. Heaven knows what they feed the poor mite but I suspect chicken nuggets and Haribo are part of her 5-a-day.

my one year old would not have been able to hold and drink from a can of coke so no
Nope...I rarely buy fizzy pop.
Apart from anything else expect her to be having teeth pulled by the time she's five. Idiots!

This child was making a messy old job of drinking the coke and it was going all down her dress, but she was still drinking it. She didn't pull the ring-pull by herself, thats for sure.
I've heard of people giving brandy to babies to help them sleep. Hic!
Nope.

I saw a programme several years ago where a mother was feeding her babies chewed up McDonalds burgers.
I stopped a girl giving a baby less than 18 months old Pepsi max. When I explained it was like giving her baby a double espresso she was horrified. The worrying thing was how upset the little one was when it was taken away. I know I could have had a mouthful of abuse or worse but I was so concerned.

Tigger, people's stupidity never ceases to amaze me.
Personally no I absolutely wouldn't, but in the huge scheme of things if they are otherwise good parents it's not the worst thing I've ever heard of. I imagine it's a lack of knowledge rather than anything else.
Idiots .. And that's being kind to an idiot! But they are out there ....they walk amongst us.... They are there to remind decent caring folk how not to drag up a poor defenceless child. Unfortunately with the increase in population of this type of...ermmm 'sub human'? It will increase so expect more of their ilk near you anytime soon..... Ye gods!

Dunnitall, you've more or less said exactly what I was thinking myself... however I'd brace yourself if I were you... ;-)
"...and these people are allowed to vote.." Who said that?
I know, NoM. I only give Little Tigs water and the occasional Fruit Shoot at home. He doesn't like fizzy drinks and I've never given him cola although I've recently found out that his dad has!!

Having said that, when I was little me and my cousins used to get given a small bottle of Baby Cham at Christmas parties :o)
Yeh...I know NoM.....life on ansa bank is fraught with dangers from the righteous and those who defend the indefensible...but hey.... If it takes that so be it, I'm old enough to take the flak but not patient enough to deal with the thickos... Oh woe is me... Xx
No. I wouldn't.

As far back as I can remember I was made to drink the cabbage water because I was told it was good for me. I hated it but I grew up believing all children had to drink the cabbage water.
I drink cabbage water.
Question Author
I don't mind cabbage water now, if I'm not using it for gravy. I didn't like it as a 4-year-old though.
I remember sitting waiting for health visitor and listening in on a conversation between two young mothers. They were discussing starting weaning. The slightly older one said " Baby food doesn't taste of nothing so I mix it with tomato sauce". Any fizzy drink is a nono for a young child, water and milk are what they should have.
