in air approximately 330 m/s

Depends on medium through which it is propogating
and also varies depending on height.it is usually measured at sea level.

I remember it as 1120 feet/sec at sea level in dry air at 20 degrees C.  This is a bit more than 330 m/s, so I'll look it up in Kaye & Laby (the physical constants bible) tomorrow.  It's also very roughly 5 seconds per mile, which gives you the delay between lightning and the sound of thunder, depending on the distance of the strike.

speed of sound at sea level = 340.29 m / s
