I have windows 7 and am trying to backup a family history file as I have done before many times. I have tried both a memory stick and a cdrw and keep getting the message "a generic error has occured" What does that mean? and how do I get over it?

How are you trying to back it up?

Are you just copying the file (or files) or a folder to the memory stick?

Are you using copy and paste, drag and drop, or what?

The program that I am trying to back up id Family Tree Maker and under the heading "file" is the option to back up. Just click on it and a window appears with variious choices of what to back up to. I click on writable CD/DVD option and get the message mentioned before. The same for F drive where the memory stick plugs in
