Hi Ed, I was just curious, could you maintain a troll user id alongside a "normal" id on answerbank? would you be able to have 2 browsers open simultaneously and post abuse in one and nice cheerful stuff in another and the two IDs would never be linked?

er yes....
good question Cazzz! I'd like to know the answer to that too.
sorry....I'm obviously not the Ed.

even if the "other" troll ID is being banned over and over again, you can still come on in the safety of the nicer ID?
Lets see shall we
at the moment usernames are email addy linked, not IP linked, (as far as I am aware) so it's very easy to have more than one ID running at the same time. When I'm really bored I have 3 windows into 3 different chatsites open all at once.....
it seems you can
Question Author
ahh so theoretically you could be (and this is purely hypothetical so no offence) waterboatman and docspock at the same time, so from the Eds perspective (he sees behind the scenes) he would see no link? so if they ban Doc, WBM could still post without a problem?
yes cazzz.........
Both of my above answers would show as coming from the same IP address so a quick look at the logs for the site would soon tell them that something was a little odd
I just went to make a cup of tea and this place fell apart... Oh dear. Must have someone else make me my tea in the future.

You can, in most situations, run two various id's (this includes gmail, facebook and so on) as long as you have two different browsers open.

The links I would see would be things like IP addresses and the like - so the doc/wbm double life would be detected.

All the best,

Spare Ed

I suppose thats assuming they have a static IP
Question Author
lol @ the wbm/doc double life, he would marmalise me if he saw me linking him with poor old wbm
Chuck I once posted simultaneously with 2 names, nothing nasty it was just for a laugh, I only posted 1 answer with the other name and it got banned 'cos a certain someone reported me thinking it was kn0bby :-(
what is a static IP?
Question Author
an IP address that doesnt change making it easy to be detected
thank you Cazzz!
but surely if you use an iphone or a dongle you don't have a static IP therefore you can use countless names?
Unless a person is up to mischief they won't want several user names or care if their IP is static or not.
true society.........but then if you are up to 'mischief' it's not exactly difficult is it?
