I find it so annoying when Football or Rugby takes over a whole Saturday evenings tele.

This happened a few weeks ago when regular prime time tv shows for a Saturday night was cancelled and if my memory was right it was Rugby that ruined the whole evenings viewing.

My argument to that is with hundreds of channels and quite a few Sports channels, surely Football or Rugby matches could be put on the Sports channels. Not pollute a normal Saturday night tv viewing.

I look forward to our weekends as a family and sit down and watch what normally is family viewing on a Saturday night.

Why are Sporting events allowed to steam roller their way over normal shows?

Why not ask the TV company ?

I agree with you but we always have stuff recorded or find something on Netflix to watch so it doesn't really affect us.

Redhelen72,

The BBC & ITV are renowned for it though.

I have sent complains in but they obviously don't listen.

My point is it doesn't have to be like it, they have their own Sports channels for that.

How are they allowed to disrupt a family's Saturday night entertainment?

It pulls in more viewers.

naomi24,

Yeah I get that, but very often the shows that should have been on were cancelled. So it's not like we watch them on catch up tele or something.

I can't be the only one with this complaint.

The cancelled programmes are nearly always broadcast later.  It just means the series ends a week later

Canary42,

I can't see how it pulls in more viewers, as we ended up watching dvds.

Plus if your licence is already bought, dragging in more viewers to watch football isn't needed.

We have sports channels already in place for this.

What sports channels ?

Quite rare to see live football on terrestrial tv unless it's a major competition or international match.

Question Author

Old_Geezer,

Well Sky sports, BT sports, Eurosport, loads of them.

If you are a dedicated sports fan, you probably subscribe to some or all of these anyway.

I just don't understand why the BBC or ITV need to broadcast sports stuff on a Saturday evening when that is reserved for family entertainment, we'll when I use the word reserves, I mean Saturday nights are reserved for families viewing.

Why not sit down as a family and talk to each other - just like we used to before TV came along.

Ken4155,

It's been disrupting family entertainment for years. I been fuming about this for years now.

But it's needless.

Question Author

We always talk to each other, but there are great things normally on during a Saturday evening. It's weekend tele. But sports shouldn't be one of them

Terrestrial tv should cater for all of us, including sports fans who cannot afford the high prices of subscribing to one of the channels you mentioned. Lots of football fans have to make do with a few minutes of their favourite team's games on MOTD.

I'm not sure that there is much "families viewing" going on these days...it's so last century!

What if folk just want to watch the occasional sporting event and don't want to pay to watch sport on a dedicated channel?

BBC and ITV don't have their own sports channels.

All specialist sports channels have to be forked out for by the viewer.

What is "normal" ? 😀

It's not the norm though is it , it's normally if there is a large competition like the six nation or a national game

because they draw in the viewers

chrissakes. Footie on tel is chosen by around 90% men

Question Author

THECORBYLOON,

OK, but surely then they could disrupt the not so prime tele channels/shows like BBC 2 or ITV 2, and put the football or rugby on there.

I don't get how sports stuff over rules everything and actually cancels Saturday evening shows, which doesn't seem fair we have to wait another whole week for.
