roadman - did that Danish record stand? I seem to think the judges didn't disqualify them but didn't count the record. I suspect the old record's been broken since anyway.
At the start of the race, Steve Cram said it was the greatest line up ever for an Olympic 400m Hurdle final. All 3 medallists wore different footwear, yet all beat the existing record. Shoes? Track? Personal improvement? Drugs? All of the above, none of the above?

I think you’ll find Abebe Bikila was one of the first in the 1960s and he won gold medals, unlike Zola.

You cannot force people to compete barefoot, it would not be natural.
