On a less frivolous note. Can we win the WC? Yes, the way this tournament is shaping up, anything is possible. Will we win the World Cup? I have my doubts as we seem far too reliant on Harry Kane. The message from opposing managers will be, 'Stop the supply to Kane and we stop England'. That said, at our best we will be hard to beat and i can see lots of extra time and maybe even penalties if we are to even reach the final. Like Sharon, i also have everything crossed. Hence the high-pitched typing :-)

To me this has been the best world cup in many a year.... lots of great football, goals, shocks and surprises etc. I'm not getting over giddy with England winning it, but still quietly confident.

The present Mrs Hughes, who knows about these things, advises me that the majority of the Belgian squad play in the Premier League, so they will be familiar with their opposition, and know how they play.

Yes, Cloverjo. But looking for omens and actually finding them are two different things :-) As the only other side left in the competition who have lifted the trophy are France, i have tried to find any omens for them. To no avail. I mean, if i spent a day or three looking, maybe i could come up with one or two, but as my earlier posts were tongue-in-cheek, i don't think i'll bother :-)
