he's also scored a century in each of his five tests as captain. Very impressive. Hoping for another one from Pietersen tomorrow (if he ever gets to bat).
Just reading the TMS blog where their statistician has worked out that if he carries on at this rate and retired at 37(a la Ponting) he will become the greatest Test batsman of all time.
^^I think you are supposed to be concentrating on the fact that, as the quote appears, it seems that Cook has scored 2300 runs in one day......

Mind your ribs, now.....
I think the reason he is now the youngest Englishman to reach 7000 is that they play more Test matches closer together, with less minor games in between.I remember in the 50's when the Aussies toured over here they would play nearly every County before each Test so that all the tourists would get a game and acclimatised to the conditions. Now it's just a couple of warm up games play the series and move on to the next country.
sort of, codswallop. Cook took only one more test than Hammond (86 to 85) but 11 more innings (151 to 140). And Hammond's average was 58, well ahead.

But yes, by the time Cook reaches Hammond's age he'll probably have 40 centuries.
