Just watched this super programme repeated form last week. What a great couple they are, no airs and graces, full of fun and so much in love. What a shame they are not next in line for being King and Queen, I'm sure Charles and Camilla, however capable they will be, are not half as popular as William & Kate, who are determined to get down to the level of the people and to win hearts and minds......

I enjoyed it too Ann - a lovely couple!
I agree Ann, I dread Charles being King. William and Kate would be much better, they are more in touch with the people. I think his mum did a good job.
I think our current Queen will go on and on and by then Charles may be too old to take over.
William will possibly be in his mid to late 30's, possibly early 40's and an ideal age to take over.
Will Charles allow that?

What do you all think?
Mass, I don't think Charles will do that. Ever since he was born he has been waiting for this job to come along, imagine getting to retirement age and the job's gone!!
Personally I don't think Charles will ever be King and don't think he wants to be either. The best chance the Monarchy have of surviving is by passing the reign to William.
It's just an observation.

She's 86 now and is very rarely ill. I can see her continuing for another 10+ years. That'll make Charles 79+. I believe that's too old to take over.
William in his late 30's would be better. IMO
He'd have to abdicate and what would his excuse be for that?
That he's too old? That he knows there might be an issue with a Queen Camilla and wouldn't put her through it?
It happend with Edward the V11 he was an old man when he became King.
Age!!

Also that "The Nation" would be more inclined to accept Queen Kate than Camilla.
what Tony! Edward Vii didnt abdicate...that was viii - infact vii was younger than Charles is now when he took over from Viccy,
I know he didn't abdicate, just saying he was an old man when he became King.
If the Queen will be still alive and ruling in her nineties Charles can't really say he's too old when he won't be yet 80. On top of that, Charles hardly saw his mother as a child and was brought up by the nanny i think he'd want his son to at least have some time with his kids before the burden of being King. That's just my opinion.
As things stand at the moment and allowing for the Act of Succession, QE2 will be succeeded by Charles III (or George VII). QE2 will not abdicate as she knows the cost of that ré her uncle and father. She may create a Prince Regent for the day to day and William could assume that role.

One thing you have to bear in mind is that with all the cotton wool of the Palace and the age of both of his parents, Charles also has a fair number of years left in him - he could easily pass 90 and there is no history of dementia or debilitating diseases like that kicking around that could push him to surrendering his heritancy to his son before accession. There have been incidents of grandsons taking over, but usually through death of the Prince of Wales first - with the Georges 2 to 3 - Prince Frederick died unexpectedly in 1751, 12 years ahead of his old man.
I agree that Willaim and Kate are a breath of fresh air which the monarchy badly needs. I can't wait for them to be king and queen but I hope it is a while yet as I think they should be able to enjoy their marriage as 'normally' as possible first. I don't think much of 'would be' King Charles & Queen Camilla.
So Tony you are calling people at 61 old?????? that was what Ed VII was when he took up the job.
There was a big difference in being 61 in 1901 than there is now ( average life expectancy ).
well Mummy was old enough - but truth be told he drank, smoked and shagged his way into the coffin - bit like his great grand-daughter when you think about it.
Kenneth Mackenzie, also known as Coinneach Odhar or the Brahan Seer, was a legendary Scottish clairvoyant from the early 17th century. He predicted that none named Charles would ever rule over Scotland. So......... do we get William or Independence?
I know he was a '' bad boy '' but at least he had a good time ( untill it probably killed him that is ) lol.
