This is the shortlist for the BBC award:

Mark Cavendish (cycling)
Darren Clarke (golf)
Alastair Cook (cricket)
Luke Donald (golf)
Mo Farah (athletics)
Dai Greene (athletics)
Amir Khan (boxing)
Rory McIlroy (golf)
Andy Murray (tennis)
Andrew Strauss (cricket)

I suspect Rory McIlroy will win but Mark Cavendish deserves it.

As it's probably his last chance, what he's been through personally and has finally won his first major this year, not to mention his Ryder Cup history I reckon Darren Clarke is a shoe-in. Rory has got years ahead of him in which to win it during his career, Darren is in the twilight of his.
To my mind golf ain't sport, along with darts & snooker.
Were it judged on pure sporting achievement, I'd say that Mo Farah deserves it. But it isn't any more, so he probably won't get it.

Darren has more 'Personality' than all the others, so I hope it goes to him.
On "personality" then Darren wins by a mile - he's well out on front as you might say :-)
As a runner myself I'd love to see Mo FarAh win, and Mark Cavendish's achievements are indeed amazing.
I don't know if anyone here has seen the "Rory McIlroy's Indecent Proposals" sketches by the comedian Diarmuid Corr - not sure I could ever see the lad in the same light again after that!
Did you say golf isn't a sport?
My sports personality of the year would be Gary Speed. RIP
Mo Farah - golf is a waste of a good walk
Darren Clarke walks it.

I saw him win at Royal St Georges and despite the wind and the rain, he oozed personality as well as talent, he deserves it.
I'd vote for Cavendish.
He may have a bit of a "prickly" personality but his achievements would make him a deserved winner.
ich ^-that Dairmuid Corr show is an embarrassment-repetitive cr*p
would like to see big Darren getting the award tho the golf vote has a 3 way split
Unfortunately it's not based on acheivement. Minority sports never get a look in. Carl Fogarty, 3 time WSB champ was overlooked in favour of Tiger Tim (never won owt) one year.

Strauss has a chance, Cavendish for a place, Clarke for a place. Although they'll probably give it to serial choker Murray.
I note that there are no sportswomen on the list this year, although I can't immediately think of any who should be on there
Mo Farah is my choice
Mark Cavendish gets my vote although I doubt he will actually win.

Not surprised Foggy got overlooked, kayless.... you've missed out on one of his championship victories. Four times.

I think they've all got a shot. but I think Darren Clarke will walk it, tugging on the Nation's heartstrings.
Murray's never going to win it

To be Sports Personality of the Year you first need to have a personality
must go to a cricket man...we destroyed the Aussies and put India in the cricket graveyard and we are now number one test side in the world....
