Well Gizzy the end is nigh. Just wanted to let you know.
Received an email from my dentist last night and I didn't know it was as near but my appointment for impressions was to be next Monday - they cancelled it due to unforeseen circs but am booked for 15th so last stage is on it way and I am getting a little anxious to say the least. I just hope I have done the right thing - in fact need to bite the bullet (not with my newbies tho) and get it over with.
Will be glad to get rid of these brandyballs/sherbet lemons (dentures) in my mouth.

I was thinking about you a few weeks ago and wondered how you were going on.
I kept all my records of my dentists appointments, along with lots of piccies, etc. I've just looked at my appointments and after the impressions were taken, the final fitting was approx 3 weeks later, so I'd assume you can expect something similar.
Even now, after approx 18 months later, I still try to take my denture out. Even though it was only a small (2 teeth) denture .... I would not like to go back to wearing it :)
Good luck .... not long now :)

oh thanks for answering. yes unbeknown to me the impressions were scheduled for tomorrow but now Friday 15 - impressions then I think about two weeks later for fittings
Giz - can I ask a couple of questions - perhaps stupid
1. Do they take the impressions without removing anything in my mouth.
2. Altho I'll be getting these teeth - will they feel "false" cos all I know with these dentures - my tongue never leaves them alone (dentures)
3. My gums where the implants are still extremely sensitive and tender - is that normal.
Thanks for any answers.
by the way when I finally get the new teeth - have I to be very careful in what I eat like "caramels" I dare say.
Also I know you got a mouth guard - is that necessary - if so - how long do you wear them and do you keep them in all night (night guards).
thanks for your answers

I can't say with 100% accuracy, as I had that much work done , but if you've got healing caps in place, they might need removing, so that an impression can be taken close to the gum line. Whatever the work involved is, it's not intrusive and involves virtually no moving of anything.
If you've had a crown, then your new teeth just feel like a crown. They're nothing like a denture and should fit nice and tight up to your gum line, so even when you rub your tongue on them, you'll hardly notice any difference between them and your own teeth. There is a small difference, but it's hardly noticeable and you'll soon get used to them .... you may not even notice any difference between them and your own teeth.
With regards to your gums, you've got to remember that they've undergone a major trauma. 18 months later and my gums still don't quite feel like the rest of the gums. I've got used to it now, but I think the gum area around my implants is slightly less sensitive than the rest - almost as if some of the nerves have been killed off. It's nothing major, just something I notice from time to time.

Keep missing things ..... with regards to eating, just don't go eating bricks and you should be fine.
When they "cement" your "teeth" in place, they use a bond that is slightly weaker than what they use for crowns. This is so that if you do bite something hard or chewy and put too much pressure on the crown - the crown will come out at its weakest point, which is just the crown itself; but the titanium implants will remain intact., so all that is required is for the crown to be cemented back in place.

I keep missing you here but here is the latest - could you help me
Hi Giz - I thought I was getting impressions last Friday but when I arrived at the surgery he done another procedure - dental talk -he had to go under a piece of skin and do what he had to do - resulting in a lot of pain for me.
He did suggest that I could have made another appointment to include sedation and wish I had.
However I'm supposed to go back in 3 weeks time for "trial teeth" - colour and adjustments - then more weeks - the final teeth.
But, Giz I am in quite lot of pain and at the moment the gums feel they have scabs on them - and right now I couldn't let anybody do this -
Can you tell me what way the "trial teeth" are done - ie like invasive again and more pain and while I am on - is it painful getting the final teeth screwed on.
Also could you advise me on a great mouthwash. Thanks

well I now know through remembering that the "scabs" are actually the healing buttons (2 silver buttons) - dentist never told me this - just remember reading about this when I was researching.
I am happy that they are not scabs and I know what they are so hopefully removing them in 3-4 weeks time will be ok.
Still looking forward to hearing from Gizmonster -

I'm just trying to work out at what stage you're at??
I'm guessing by the sounds of it, you've had healing caps put in and you'll probably have stitches.
I think I may have misinformed you with my last post, as I forgot that the dentist needed to make small incisions in order to place the healing caps.
If you've just had the healing caps placed, then my next appointment after that was approx 4 weeks later, which was the appointment for taking impressions.
I've no idea what the "trial teeth" are. When my impression was taken, the dentist used a colour chart to match the implants with the rest of my mouth, so that they were made to match.
