Catholic vs Protestant.
43 Answers
Going by the general rules of the aforementioned denominations, is it the case that one is correct over the other? Around Ireland and the the UK these two faiths are more than likely the most common. I'm from Ireland where Catholicism is the most dominant religion but there are a few Protestant religions like Methodist and Church of Ireland also. Is it the case that Catholics should believe that these Protestants will not go to Heaven and Protestants think that Catholics will not get to Heaven? Or is it the case that all Christians get to Heaven regardless of the Catholic/Protsestant thing?

Most Catholics on the other hand don't think that Protestants will go to heaven as they too worship 'incorrectly'. The same can be said of Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims.
It seems that the only people who are going to heaven are those individuals who believe themselves to be unquestioningly right according to their own viewpoint.

How is my assertion ridiculous?
If Catholics and Protestants don't believe that the other will go to hell, then why the lethal animosity between the two faiths? Why the enormous 'peace walls' in Northern Ireland? Catholics and Protestants have been murdering each other for centuries over the way the other practice their religion. To honestly believe that the majority of these two groups haven't been indoctrinated to hate the other is ridiculous.
I'm sure you know Catholics and Protestants who get along together just fine. Just as some Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims get along too. But the fact remains, each group (as a whole) thinks that they are ultimately 'right' and that everyone else is wrong. And if you are 'wrong' in your belief, you are by definition, condemned to hell.

I am a Catholic girl born and bred, have mixed with people of all faiths and although not a scholar in any of them am interested in both their differences and similarities. I see no reason why anyone who lived a good life and was inherently kind to others should not enter the heaven their faith decrees, also have no issue with non believers, that is their choice too.
I've always thought that the concept of Hell was ludicrous anyway. Hell is the most monstrous idea ever imaged by human beings; the sheer amount of imagined cruelty is unsurpassed. Not content with torturing people to a finite point until they expire, we're told that in Hell, the torment drags out for ever and ever into eternity with no chance of a reprieve or escape.
Apart from its abhorrent cruelty, what possible purpose does Hell serve? Why would God create such a place when we are told by all the major religions of the world that God is just and merciful and good? If Hell does exist then by definition it has been created by God (unless I've misread the scriptures and somehow Satan can also create something from nothing and is not just restricted to influencing human behaviour by using subtle tricks) and as such, can be removed from existence by God. If God cannot destroy Hell then He is not all powerful. If He is all powerful yet unwilling to destroy Hell, then He is not all loving and merciful. If God is not all loving and merciful then we have to conclude that He is malevolent and cruel He actually wants some people to go to Hell and be tortured for a time stretching to infinity.
If God wants some people to be tortured for all eternity in a prison of His own making, what kind of God are the religious peoples of this world venerating?
