I think he was very cheerful at times, not so cheery at others.

He wasn't very cheery at all in Gethsemane garden, in fact he was so sad he cried.

no ethel I mean homosexual. you know. if he asked for meat and 2 veg he wasnt talking about food!
I think that given that there are no details of his life outside of the new testament and that there's little certainty about most of that then the chances of deducing his sexuallity are pretty slim
It's not based on something ridiculous like the expression "the disciple that Jesus loved best" is it?
Gay?

yes i have heard of this. a lot of it goes on in Brighton apparently.
Maybe bi or even asexual.

As said, so much is in doubt anyway, how can we know.

BTW, great answer Ethel
are you reading Viz poltergeist?
Let's see--Surrounded himself with Men;never Married. How many Women at the Last Supper ? Er--that's right None. What do you think ?
Brionon, how do you know he never married? Unless I've missed a bit, which is doubtful, the bible doesn't tell us whether he was married or not, but as a Jewish rabbi it would have been more likely that he was. Additionally, we don't know precisely who was present at the Last Supper. According to the gospels, there were women among his followers. You need to do your homework.

In answer to the question, yes, I have heard of it, poltergeist, but only through books aimed at sensationalism. In reality no one knows - but personally I doubt it. I think he was probably married.
naomi; I need to do my Homework? I was taught the Bible by a man with a Stick, mate . I know it and I HATE it, OK ?
naomi on the button as usual.

And here's a thought (which is, by the way, nothing to do with Dan Brown): who was Leonardo thinking of when he painted the person on Jesus' right in his Last Supper?

The faithful claim that it was John, which is risible. John was a Galilean fisherman who would almost certainly have been bearded like others. He would have had a weatherbeaten face through being out at sea in all weathers and horny hands through repeatedly casting and retrieving nets.

The person on Jesus' right has an oval face with a clear complexion, long auburn hair and very delicate hands with slim fingers. Undoubtedly a woman.

It's not a photograph, of course, but what was in Leonardo's mind? Did he realise that, as naomi says, it is very unlikely that Jesus would have been unmarried and so painted the scene as he realistically imagined it?

And what is a disciple, except someone who listens to the teacher, as Mary and Martha of Bethany certainly did, and Mary of Magdala?

You might hate it, Brionon, but you clearly don't know it.

"has anyone else heard of this?"

No. The book you are reading is top secret, and you have the only copy.

chakka I see your point about who was on the right. but it could still possibly be just a very feminine male. the equivelent of a thai ladyboy for instance. i have not decided if he was or not yet but some very interesting arguments here. So if he was a rabbit does the jewish faith allow gayness?
Well it appears there are arguments both sides if jesus sexual persuasion really matters to you. I think the idea that because women were at the last supper that he was probably not gay is hilarious what nincompoop above used that point?! Was this on the basis that gay blokes dont have female friends!! Wally.

Also, who is to say that there were not effeminate men in his time? That woman you talk of drawn by a man about 1500 years after the event (so hardly a Polaroid) could have been a man who just looked pretty in the painters studio.

Was he gay? Possibly. Was he not gay? Possibly. Was he married? Possibly. At the end of it all, who cares.
quite so, Ankou, what Leonardo painted 1500 years later is not evidence. In fact there is no evidence. He might have married, but then again an itinerant preacher with a lot on his mind might not have found the time. But unmarried isn't the same as gay.

Well I care and the reason bieng thuis. i was named after an appostle and I have a son on the way. so if Jesus WAS gay then this might make it more likely that my son will be gay right? I pray that it wont be though.

I need more evidence on this. hard facts. does anybody want to come to an art gallery and start some sort of epic treasure hunt inorder to aquire the facts I yearn?
I didn't say unmarried was the same as gay, so am I right in thinking you mean someone else above?
