Right here goes...... I honestly don't want to start a big debate but for all the muslims out here can someone eplain what your religion is all about?
From what i have seen so far it is very oppressive very negative and also very dogmatic in the way you live your life.

anyone wanna try and change my media influenced views on muslim culture?

and please no-one start raving on about how bad all muslims are- they cant all be bad so i just want someone to explain to me on an unhostile thread what they're all about.

Waalaikum Asslam w Rahmatullah w barkat - Mani. Pakistan Elections, lets see I hope we get a government, who think about Pakistan and Pakistanis instead of Others before making any decisions.

But that does not seem possible as yet in Pakistan unfortunately.

(i am also the sherman) well i have watched this with great interest thank you (most of you) for your comments.

Firstly I didnt google it because it would have returned 50 billion responses that would have been very boring reading and also would have someamazing agendas behind most of them.

second My gut feeling really is that we cannot cohabit cities/countries together really - as damning as that is!
when you have Keyplus saying that islam is the right way and the rest of us not wanting anything to do with religion, eventually something is going to spark isnt it? Also keyplus i definatley agree with, i think it was Naomi who said that you need to sort your own house before trying to recruit new members. What that says to me is that your religion can't possibly be right because the people in your religion quarrel within it about who is right!? So you've not convinced me at all of the greatness of islam. Your comment was also incredibly arrogant about how Islam is the right choice, I just feel you should know how you come accross.

Mani - Nice said, but as you said where majority rules, you can't say anything.
well first off i dont have a belief system as such i believe in evidence which is not the same as religion at all.

second when someone despises the dawkins aproach that doesnt actually mean they believe any less what dawkins says-just that they don't like dawkins methods of shouting fromthe rooftops that all evidence points to there being no god.

for what its worth my view on life is do what you want but dont hurt others,

and the thing that i hate about islam(and i willingly admit that i have limited knowledge on the religion) is the blatant sexism. the covering up of woman i think is an absolute disgrace. I know that christianity isnt much better and that i didnt get into the vatican because my girlfriend was wearing the wrong top on a 42c hot day last year but the way it tries to repress women is something i despise.

There is something hilarious in thinking that god is up there with his binoculars peering down at all the women to see if they are covering up their bodies. Its possibly the most stupid thing i can concieve!

Really what im mainly saying is that i hate all religions equally.
Really? What have te Buddhists ever done to you?!

I think hating all religions is fair enough, but there is no need to hate all the people within them, or who believe in them.
Islam is a peaceful, loving religion, which has been highly misunderstood. Unfortunatley through temptations seen around nowadays it is seens as oppressive. Women are not oppressed, just have different roles to men. The idea that a women is to be covered up is not to make her feel low, but to give her power. It is a statement that when others ( especially the opposite sex) see the women they see her for her knowledge and grace but not her waist size. It is a protective cover that tells people straight off that 'Im not your ornament to be seen or touched unless I give you the rights'. The list is very extensive, but this is just a little note to think about. I know a female converting to Islam, and it reminds me that so many people are coming towards Islam through their own choice not by the force of others...I see this as a sign that it isnt the oppressive religion that people see it to be.

No I dont even have to think about that because it was not womans choice to include that about covering up they were originally dictated that.

Also Islam is not peace and loving. Look at some of keyplus' points he basically states that he knows islam is right and that he felt sorry for westerners(Waldo) for not believing. That kind of arrogance leads to some pretty heated situations. So from what i have experienced so far, Is humans being dictated on what they can and cant do and extreme arrogance. And you wonder why the masses dislike and distrust this religion?
muslims are evil. and they all resemble camels especially those living in arabia and the middle east.
Question Author
sorry my first part isnt very clear! I meant as it wasnt origanlly a womans choice whether she covers up or not and now is not her choice either then it is not freedom its an agenda pushed onto a woman. something that limits what a person can and cannot do is certainly not empowering!
Saw this on a website...have a think about it.

Suppose two sisters who are twins, and who are equally beautiful, walk down the street. One of them is attired in the Islamic hijaab i.e. the complete body is covered, except for the face and the hands up to the wrists. The other sister is wearing western clothes, a mini skirt or shorts. Just around the corner there is a hooligan or ruffian who is waiting for a catch, to tease a girl. Whom will he tease? The girl wearing the Islamic Hijaab or the girl wearing the skirt or the mini? Naturally he will tease the girl wearing the skirt or the mini. Such dresses are an indirect invitation to the opposite sex for teasing and molestation. The Quran rightly says that hijaab prevents women from being molested.
Chattirbank, lets all try and be kind to eachother, there is no need for this kind of talk, even if someone else is doing the same.
Question Author
thats hilarious i Love that just because she is a westerner she is wearing a mini skirt hehe that is absolute tosh. what if you rewrote it so that instead of a short skirt she wore an expensive suit and looked absolutley stunning-a figure of power in a male dominated world. That is interpretation and media spin on a backwards argument.
it didnt say she is a westener, it just said she was wearing western clothes. offence was not meant
Ive met and made friends with loads of muslims through my work, and have found them to be thoroughly nice people on the whole.

The whole thing about women's place really just comes down to cultural differences in how we see women. Most westerners see the Hijab and the womens role in Islam as treating degrading, treating women as second class citizens.

However, when muslims see western women sleeping around, falling out of clubs drunk and vomiting in the street, having abortions, young girls wearing make up and short skirts whilst idolising glorified strippers like Britany Spears, and the general view in our society of women as sex objects they equally see this as degrading and demeaning.

Ive asked a number of muslim women about the hijab and their role in Islam and most talk about it being empowering.

sorry. i apologise to everyone for posting that.
but i do see them like that, and that's my honest opinion of them.
JJ2006 your answer and recognition is very much appreciated.

first off it is Britney spears choice what she does with her body. That is a basic human right that is violated as soon as a baby muslim girl is born. Thats the difference choice.

And I have heard plenty of muslim men saying that "we must control our western women-that they our out of control!"

what about soudi Arabia where it has totally been used to control women! cats and dogs have more rights in this country than women do in soudi arabia!
and y do you think that about Saudi Arabia?
