Have you ever seen a ghost, and if so what did it look like, where do you think it came from - and were you afraid? I'd be interested to hear your experiences.

I havent as much seen one, but i know i live with one!
I was warned about it before i moved in by my fella, but didnt believe him!
We have alot of cats & a dog, and they sometimes all site and stare at the bottom of the stairs.
One time they all did it when we were watching a film, sat there for ages all staring & moving there heads at the same time, then they all just literally freaked out, the cats were hissing, the dog was barking, one of my cats even tried jumping through a closed window.
It does freak me out! But ive got used to it!
I saw loads of them while I lived in Africa. There was also a ghost cat in a place I used to live in England. We used to see it from time to time wondering around the house and could sometimes hear it clawing at the carpet.
My Brother and a friend had just started a window cleaning business and an elderly lady wanted her panes washed inside and out because she was soon to be moving.
It was pretty empty in all the rooms as a lot of her belongings had already gone to her next house.
My Brother was upstairs and about to kneel on the sill but there was an ornate shoehorn *** backscratcher implement on the ledge and in his way.
So, he took it off and carefully placed it on the floor a few feet back.He turned to get his water applicator from the bucket and went to kneel on the sill again and there was the shoehorn thing back on the ledge.
He looked around the room but saw nobody.
It freaked him out and he told me it was the quickest he'd ever washed some windows.
Later he very gingerly asked the old lady if she had any ghosts in the house?
She replied, "yes" and on hearing his story said, " Oh! that kind of thing happens quite a lot in here".
Yes Ive lived in a house with a ghost. The house was being modernised so we had no carpets we could hear footsteps on the floorboards upstairs, my daughter who was only 4 at the time would ask who was singing in the night. Our dog would never go upstairs. Our babysitters refused to babysit. Doors slammed, lights went on and off. I never saw it but my husband did, he was a sceptic but soon changed his mind. We sold the house.

Hi Wiggal, I lived in a haunted house, and I know what you mean - my dog also used to freak out - but we got used to it too.

Hi Fingerprint, apart from the cat, were the ghosts malevolent? I know you've talked about black magic taking place in Africa, so do you explain the ghosts as part of that, or do you have another explanation for them?
The ghosts that I used to see were like small fire balls moving quickly through the air and apparently they are the most photographed type of ghost. I don't think that they have the awareness or the ability to really harm people the way spirits do. A friend of mine saw a number of these orbs crossing the road in the shape of a man.

pussnboots - our ghost was really noisy too - I'm sure it wore ghostly hobnail boots! Also all our clocks used to be turned back an hour during the night - every single one of them, whether they were electric or clockwork - even our watches were turned back - and our houseplants used to "dance" too.

When my husband got up in the mornings he would go downstairs and he said 'someone' walked along beside him in the hall. He didn't believe in ghosts until we lived there. We sold our house too.

Luna, I've not experienced that, but I did lose my purse for three months and then suddenly one day, there it was on the arm of the sofa.

I never saw the ghost in that house - we just heard it continually, and experienced it's many tricks- too numerous to list here - but I did see one in my mother's house in broad daylight and it was absolutely solid - just like a real person and not at all misty or transparent as you'd imagine a ghost would be. I knew who that was though, and it didn't scare me at all at the time - but it did when I thought about it afterwards.

Everyone, Where do you think they come from? They don't all seem to be malevolent, so are they a natural occurrence, or do you think they're something more sinister.

Fingerprint, I've never seen an orb, but I know what they are, and they do seem to be very common, don't they.
Who was the ghost that you knew Naomi? Did it seem aware of you being there?
Did a bit of research on my haunted house, we lived in a small village so everyone knew everyone. Most of the activity centred around the stairs and landing area, the house was approx100 years old. It turned out that some years previously a man who lived there hanged himself over the bannister. By the way when we bought the house it had been condemned it was very run down. All the activity seemed to start when we began to knock walls down and generally alter the layout of the place. I have often wanted to ask the present owners if they have heard/seen anything but never had the chance.
Are they spirits somehow trapped between this world and the next. Some seem to be on a repetitive cycle(maybe that was just before there point of death) in which they continually replay a certain moment.
Others seem to have free reign as it were, to move around wherever they please and also move objects, reminding that whoever occupies the house/flat etc in the present that this is their place.
I actually think that they may not know they are lost between living and the next place.
Is it natural?
Is it unnatural?
It probably seems perfectly normal to some of the ghosts.

Fingerprint, it was my sister, and yes, she was definitely aware I was there. It was a Saturday afternoon, the TV was on, so no spooky quietness, and it was broad daylight. I decided to make some coffee and as I walked to the door of the room I happened to glance over my shoulder at the mirror above the fireplace, and I saw her through the mirror standing behind an armchair in the opposite corner of the room. I turned around and looked at her face on and she was as solid as you or I. She had her hands on the back of the chair and was wearing fashionable clothes - a green top and a brown skirt. Her hair was immaculate and she looked pretty - just like any young girl. She didn't speak, but she smiled at me and nodded, as if to say 'don't worry, it's ok' - and it was ok. I smiled at her and nodded back, and then just stood - and we looked at each other for a while. Then I turned and walked out of the room, and calmly - so calmly - went to the kitchen and made my coffee. Thinking about that afterwards, it was a very odd thing to do in the circumstances, but that's what I did and I don't know why I did it. When I took my coffee back into the room she had gone. I wasn't afraid to go back in the room and I don't know why I wasn't, but in the days that followed I began to think of the implications of what I'd seen, and it began to scare me. It took me two weeks to muster up the courage to tell my mother, but she wasn't at all surprised. All she said was 'don't worry, she's only looking after you.'

To be continued in the next post - I've waffled too much!

Continued ...........

I think she came especially to see me, and I know she was with me when I was caring for my dying, bedridden mother too, because my mum used to say that after I'd gone to bed at night, someone would very gently rock her bed until she went to sleep, and my mum wasn't in the least afraid. It was as though I was doing the day shift and all the hands-on stuff looking after my mum, and my sister was taking care of her through the night so I could get some rest. There's no doubt, she's a gentle, loving soul, and not one to be afraid of, and although I've never seen her again, I think she's with me always.

I have a different attitude to these things now, and I think they will be explained by science some day as a natural part of our existence and of our being, but I'll never forget it, and I consider myself to be very fortunate.

Fingerprint, if I believed in the bible, I would very happily swear on it that every word of this account is true. I don't know what your opinon of an experience like this would be, but I'd be interested to know - and I'd be interested to hear anyone elses thoughts on it too. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this?

Gosh, this is like true confessions!

pussnboots - that sounds really spooky, with someone hanging themselves. A restless spirit they call it, don't they? I wonder if the new owners have noticed anything. I would like to know if the new owners of our haunted house ever noticed anything too, but like you have never had the opportunity.

Hi Luna, I often thought the person(?) who haunted our house didn't even know we were there, except that he used to walk in the hall with my husband in the mornings - but then maybe he didn't know he was dead, carried on as normal and just got ready for work at the same time, so it was a coincidence! I'm never sure about the trapped between this world and the next explanation. It's said that often people don't realise they're dead, so continue as before. Maybe our ghost had lived in that house at sometime, and maybe when we heard the front door slam and him running up the stairs in his ghostly hobnail boots, he was simply coming home and rushing to get ready to go out on a date!! I'm sure you're right - it is all perfectly normal to the ghosts!

It's certainly a mystery, but I do think it has a rational ( to some) explanation and is part of nature and of life. The universe is a big place and full of the unknown. Perhaps we humans have a lot to learn and a lot to learn to understand.
I once lived in a house that had two homosexual ghosts in it .
They kept putting the willies up each other!
Wizard69 - Tut ..... tut. You just lowered the tone.
Shame on you!
good'n though!
If there are ghosts, then there is a spiritual dimension. But most on this site don't believe in a spiritual dimension. So, what's the answer to that?
Question Author
Wizard, do you really think everyone who has experienced things they can't explain are making stories up - or suffering delusions - or hallucinations? If you haven't experienced it, but they have, surely the logical thing to do is to keep an open mind and say you don't know?
