christian religous evidence ?

hi guys- this is mainly aimed at those of the christian faith, as it is the only one i am in the slightest bit familiar with.....

i have always wanted to ask a priest or vicar but i do not know any,

what evidence is there that god exists ?

i am not trying to rattle cages, just to get perspective...

I don't think there's any evidence whatsoever for the god of the bible. There may be an 'it', a great universal force, but I don't believe it's him. He's far too petty minded.

What you describe is in fact part of the creation, created by the Creator.

Theland, I know what I'm describing, but my point is that I don't think this great force, or creator if you like, is the god of the bible. As you know I think he was someone entirely different, and not all-powerful at all.

Incidentally, I've left an answer to your post on the 'planets' thread that you might find mildly amusing.

I don't think you've got a great weight of evidence behind you at all. You've er... got it the um... the er... the wrong way round.

I meant to imply that your position is that you believe in something on the basis of some 'proof' that you yourself would recognise is insufficient in others who claim nearly the same thing, e.g. you'd dispute the correctness of another faith on the same basis that you insist your own is correct.

Well I believe in God because I believe the Bible, and what the Bible says about God. I believe I met Him in my heart when I asked the Lord Jesus Christ to be my Saviour.
So one of my 'proofs' would be that I have an experience of knowing God, of having daily fellowship with Him and of seeing prayers answered.

Other proofs of God's existence that people mention are:

The religions seen in all the various cultures, historic and current, of the world. Men seem to have a need to worship someone or something. Why do all civilisations have this spiritual need if it wasn't put in them by a Creator Who wished to be worshipped?
(Also our consciences, right and wrong, morality etc. How could evolution have developed that, which is actually a handicap if you're just an animal that can do what it wants.)

The fact of the universe's existence. As I think Theland said, 'cause and effect'. Something had to 'cause' the universe. So either the cause was a 'big bang' or God.
(Cause and effect only applies to something that has a begining, as God always IS He doesn't have a begining, nothing 'caused' Him, He always IS, self existing.)

The order, purpose and harmony seen in nature. The extreme depth of design in everything suggests that there must have a been an intelligent Designer to have made it all.
Even looking at the incredible enginerring in something as simple as a single cell could surely not be explained by something as random as evolution.

Evolution theories aside. So was God asleep or enjoying his choccy biccy and mug of Tetley's when the dinosaurs were created?
He(It) may of been the supervisor or architect but his builders put the wrong mix in the cement for those over-sized small brained eating machines to roam the earth.
Maybe their potential was over-looked.
I can imagine him spitting his tea out saying,
"What the heavens are those?"
And the hierarchy of beings on other planets sniggering behind his back.

If it's ok to say that God is eternal and therefore had no beginning why not just stop at the universe and just say that the universe is eternal instead?

Seriously flawed logic to say it's ok for one thing to have no beginning but everything else must and then to use that as some kind of proof. All it proves is that you're grasp of reason and logic is rather shakey.
