"In a universe of electrons and selfish genes, blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won't find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe that we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but pitiless indifference.”
― Richard Dawkins.

no.
Khandro: to untitled.
"Do you see yourself in some sort of bubble of neutrality whereby you are able to percieve & discuss 'the universe' from the outside looking in ?"

I think untitled is entitled to have opinions, views, suggestions etc, just as much as you are. He doesn't seem to rely on ancient writings or more modern ones for that matter to support his views. I imagine that he will have read stuff and of course that would influence his outlook, but he doesn't seem to claim that such and such is the one to believe, and that the others are all wrong.
Khandro, have you read any of Dawking's books all the way through?
If the ‘creation’ was finely tuned children wouldn’t get cancer. Whoever created it all needs to go back to the drawing board because if anything is evil that is.
Naomi. Precisely. Even if there was a creator, where's the indications that it shares our own (not universal) instinctive values? Persuading that there is (or was) a creator has nothing to do with the character of that creator. All the evidence seems to point to an amoral (or probably non-existent) creator.

I wonder what Fiveleaves makes of the wonder of that creation? Fiveleaves?
Question Author
Atheist, //have you read any of Dawking's books //

Well I've read Dawkins books if that's what you mean. I made an exception because I don't normally read much of fiction. :0)
Khandro, what’s your take on the wonder of creation I mentioned at 14.49?
Khandro; If you don't discuss things (i.e. make a point, read a reply, respond in a polite and reasoned way, perhaps explain why you disagree with someone else's take on things, and so on), you are turning your back on the world of ideas in favour of sticking to your own strong beliefs, which could be wrong or incomplete or..... Have you decided you are so right that no-one else's view (apart from your favourite intellectuals') counts for anything?
If you aren't prepared to engage then I wonder why you post here at all.
Question Author
naomi: I have said repeatedly that I believe in an intelligent, finely-tuned universe from which the mind can not be separated; one interconnected whole.

I tend not to believe in an interventionist, God (though I say my prayers, just in case). :0)
Khandro, why would a creator create disease?
Question Author
“Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent.”
God never created diseases. Diseases such as cancer only exist because of the sin of Mankind which has marred God's perfect creation
Khandro, once again someone else’s words - and as usual a complete cop out. How can you possibly expect to hold a rational - or even a half sensible - discussion when you refuse to extend the conversation beyond that?

Fiveleaves, and your evidence for that is where? Again no discussion. I can offer you evidence from the Bible that God created evil. Why don’t you believe it?
Khandro, your post at 17:10 makes you seem like a deist or pantheist. Perhaps you're closer to atheism than you realise.
“ I believe in an intelligent, finely-tuned universe from which the mind can not be separated; one interconnected whole”

i suppose that ultimately this all comes down to perception then because that isn’t how the universe looks to me at all… it looks very big and chaotic and uncaring

Untitled: //it looks very big and chaotic and uncaring//

Do you not understand the meaning of the word 'chaotic' ?

When I look at the world, nature, & the universe, I see nothing but beauty, pattern & awesomeness.

If you, along with Atheist & naomi, subscribe to Richard Dawkins' jejune outlook in my OP, is it any wonder that you are getting so few invitations to parties?
‘ When I look at the world, nature, & the universe, I see nothing but beauty, pattern & awesomeness’

I’m not sure the dinosaur population would agree. Nor the populace of Pompeii. Nor the 60,000 people who died in the Turkish earthquakes. Likewise the parents of the children of Aberfan.

You either need to hone your English skills, or simply stop writing crap, Khandro.

Why is the assumption that this "creator" created the universe for us? Maybe the creator's creations just perceive us as a version of ants. We've been around for less than 0.01% of this universe's existence.
Khandro, I don’t subscribe to anyone in particular. We’re not all led by the nose.
We are such stuff as dreams are made on.
