Today, yet again, when ABers raise issues that touch on religion, they are confronted by a barrage of bile, ridicule and condescension. It is a measure of those who do so that they can only engage in insults, many of them highly personal. I don't recall any of the even slightly religious attacking atheists or agnostics in this manner. And that, I suppose, speaks volumes.

This topic may not be the best for Religious matters - Religion or Society & Culture may be better.

Though without doubt you will get some very choice remarks.

Frankly I rarely comment about my beliefs on AB because of that, preferring to talk to people who don't resort to such jibes.
And those of us who know of the vile deeds done in the name of religion are entitled to insult and ridicule. I will until my dying day.
Paigntonian, I am puzzled why some atheists take it as a personal affront when seeing a post from a believer.
Even worse, is the hatred displayed towards the God they don't believe in anyway!!!
But it is to be expected.
All the world over, attacks are increasing mainly on two groups, Christians and Jews.
But we live in strange times.

gness: That's why you're starting your own Church?
Each to their own. Gness, you come across as very bitter due to whatever happened on your past.

Theland: Don't always agree with you but on this occasion, I must.
Whited sepuchres, etc.

All high-falutin' god related matters can be dealt with over on Chatterbank.

Criticism of lifestyle choices likewise.

Please get over yourself.

gness: What about all the vile deeds that are done not in the name of religion?

Do you have anything approaching evidence to back up such a farcical notion, or is it yet another figment of your seriously fevered imagination?
//Today, yet again, when ABers raise issues that touch on religion, they are confronted by a barrage of bile, ridicule and condescension.//

Ever crossed your mind to ask YOURSELF why?
I thought he was actually defending you, nails?
If you are religious. just be religious (what ever that entails) why instigate arguments with the none religious?

Let it be.

Nailit/Andy: Discussing religion is fine (though I've yet to hear any on here attacking Islam or Judaism) being yobbish is not.
Paigntonian - respect is a two way street.

I am tired of the endless 'You're to stupid to understand but God loves you anyway ...' patronising guff I receive from the fervent Christians on this site.

Their constant smug superiority, unwillingness to concede the possibility that they might be wrong, their insults, their sarcasm, and their evasion.

If you think the fevents don't attack atheists every bit as venomously as you suggest, stick around for another eighteen years or so, then you'll have experienced what I have experienced, and be in a position to comment from knowledge, rather than a vague idea, of how things actually work around here.
Paigntonian - // ... being yobbish is not. //

Neither is interpreting a simple request as being 'yobbish' as you so quaintly put it.

If your concern is courtesy and respect - try showing some, you might get some in return.

Andy; Point proven I think. The moment I was rude to you, you called for courtesy and respect - the very things I suggested.
Nothing to do with me, 237. I am more concerned with what the church did to those who couldn’t, like me, escape. And not bitter. Just angry at what the Catholic Church has done and is still doing. Their behaviour and responses over the last few months has been shocking. Though it has turned many from their doors. That I applaud.
Paigntonian, if you admit you are rude to me, you do rather forfeit the moral high ground you appear to want to occupy with your original post.
The solution to all your religious differences is to join the First Church of Answerbank. All beliefs are welcome, and fun is the order.
Bring only bananas.
