Martin Luther King spoke of seeing the Promised Land.

What/where was he referring to?

Maybe a land where people were judged by the content of their heart rather than the colour of their skin.
Aye, my assumption has always been a flowery reference to a place/time when all feel treated well where they live. (Maybe lots of milk & honey helps too.)
I think he was referring to a time when bigotry and racism was at an end.

The following link is rather poignant. The day after he made this speech, he was assisted by those self same racists.

The literal 'Promised Land' was given by God to Abraham, therefore the Jews have the greatest historical and spiritual right to be there, it is now ironic that the Muslim world, which was only created around a thousand (?) years later, arrogantly believes it has some divine right to 'wipe them from the face of the earth'.

I think the 'Promised land' Martin Luther King was praying for would be when the black people became emancipated.
I'm afraid that as long as there are people on this earth that look different from each other..... there will always be some racism.
A land where all are free and equal.
Sadly, you're right wildwood.
Yes....you are right WW, and its a disgrace. But racism needs to be fought against....we must never leave our guard down, for one minute.
Says whitey.
Well you never know, with all this interracial breeding, we will all end up the same colour eventually.
It’s analogous with the exodus of the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt. It equates to the quest for freedom.
Naomi....I think we all knew that !
Mikey, The OP didn't - otherwise he wouldn't have asked - and I can't see where you've mentioned it.
