I don't participate in many discussions on this site but I do follow along. One thing I have noticed is that Goodlife often mentions in his posts that he is a "True Christian". What is the difference and how can you tell?

//This cannot be decided simply on the basis of what people and organizations say. //

In my own words......oh the irony!
"By their deeds ye shall know them..."
By the same token, what is the difference between a catholic and a 'good' catholic?
In the past in NI to be a Catholic had a detrimental effect on your life chances. Public housing would have been more difficult to get and lots of jobs were closed to you. You might have been a nominal Catholic who hadn't seen the inside of a Chapel since you'd left school but the discrimination would still have been there.
A 'Good Catholic' might be one who observes the teachings of the church.
Now if you were arguing over which is the true religion, and you were asked you to sit as ‘judge’ to determine who was right, would you want to do so?

People are reluctant to get involved in a religious dispute. Many people feel that it would be unwise either to claim to have the true religion or to try to decide whether any religion is true.

So take liberal view, Let each man believe as he wants. There is good in all religions.

Or take the view of the atheist that there is no God, and the agnostic says that no one really knows about this, that we are just here. But do these views really satisfy or harmonize with the facts?

Many people conceive God to be what they want him to be, not what he really is.

In doing so scribe qualities to him that he does not have, or take away qualities that he does have.

They try to fashion God to an image that suits their fancy, while ignoring the facts that show what he actually is. (2 Pet. 3:5-7)
Goodlife, there are no 'facts'. If there were there would be no dispute.

The choice is not between being an atheist and believing in any religion. It is not as simple as that.

What will guide us in choosing the right religion? A religion that teaches lies cannot be true. The greatest prophet that ever walked on earth stated: “God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”—John 4:24.

So how do you tell if the religion is telling the truth?
Naomi @ facts can be found than that dealing with God and his purposes.

For instance, some, under instruction from their church, and you say Jehovah’s witnesses who call at their homes this: You preach a cruel and unreasonable God who is going to sweep most of his people away in a horrible battle of Armageddon.

You make out that God is not good and kind. I want nothing to do with such a God.

This is a complete ignoring of the facts.

The Bible, theme is emphasized over and over again that one day God’s kingdom will rule this world, taking over the direction of earth’s affairs from the present governments that are ruling by divine permission only. (Rev. 11:17)

When the disciples asked Jesus when the end of this world of things was coming, did Jesus say, Why, how can you think such a cruel thing? No, he did not.
Jesus proceeded to answer his disciples realistically, giving them the many facts that would mark the end of this world. It would have been a cruel deception to do otherwise. (Ps. 145:20)
// In the past in NI to be a Catholic had a detrimental effect on your life chances.//

yeah - they asked which school didja go to ? and you can tell the religion

I answered Downside and knew I had screwed my chances....I should have said Eton...
Goodlife's copy and paste needs controlling

ps 145 20 is
19He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them. 20The LORD keeps all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy. 21My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, And all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever.

which I have to say has absolutely nothing to do with :
Jesus proceeded to answer his disciples realistically, giving them the many facts that would mark the end of this world. It would have been a cruel deception to do otherwise. (Ps. 145:20)
Peter Pedant, to save you waiting, I will give you goodlifes reply.
You do not know your bible.

idiosyncrasy@ The Bible, is now published in upwards of 6,000 languages.

This is what we would expect of a message from God that is meant for people of all races .

There is no other book in the world that has a record anything like it.
With regard to answers to these fundamental questions and to hope for the future, we do not want to rely on a delusion or a myth.

That being so, we have ample reason for investigating this matter of identifying the true religion.

True worshipers of God would act in harmony with the Model Prayer that Jesus gave his followers. The first thing Jesus there mentioned was this: “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.” Another Bible version puts these words this way: “May your name be held holy.” (Matthew 6:9, Jerusalem Bible) What does it mean to sanctify, or to hold holy, God’s name? How did Jesus do it?
Jesus showed how he did it when he said in prayer to his Father: “I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world.” (John 17:6)

Yes, Jesus made God’s name, Jehovah, known to others. He did not fail to use that name. Jesus knew that it was his Father’s purpose for His name to be glorified in all the earth. So he set the example in proclaiming that name and holding holding to it — Isaiah 12:4, 5.
Goodlife, I repeat, there are no 'facts'. Facts require sound evidence. There is none.
A true Christian should be able to prove himself (or herself) according to Mark: Chapter 16, verse 17 and 18.

Mind you, I still have to find a SINGLE one who can prove himself a true Christian according to their own Bible.
Keyplus, I’ve checked my copy of the Jehovah’s Witness bible and those verses are missing from the main text. Whether they’ve been reintroduced since my copy was published (it is quite old), I don’t know – but I doubt it. JW translators do have a penchant for selective editing – but they’re not alone, are they. ;o)

Pedant I will answer you once, Jesus example teaches us how we should help others.

Someone like you want to set something straight,ok, what is stated at 2 Timothy 3:16. Says All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness.”

Timothy was in his 30’s at the time this letter was written, so then he was an infant about the time of Jesus’ death. That was before any portion of the New Testament, or the Greek Scriptures, was written.

As one who knew the Hebrew Scriptures the second king of Israel, David, (who at times served to picture Jesus Christ, son of David.)—Mt 1:1. Wrote the verse you refer to Ps 145 v 20 and it does acquaint with what Jesus told his disciples, inasmuch as it refers to the time of the end.
