No. Religion is not the only sponsor of unreason . . . it's simply unreason in its most proliferous and tacitly accepted and approved form. One does not need to practice or participate in a particular version of religion to derive from it the same self-justification for behaving no differently or any more rationally and responsibly than those who do . . . that requires reason.

She is utterly fixated on a hatred of Islam despite the very many millions of perfectly peace loving Muslims and ignore facts that get in the way of her ideology. quite honestly, if that is what khandro means, I'll eat my laptop...

yes, women have been treated horrendously, in different ways all over the world. Westeners certainly appear to be improving more quickly, but still pay them less and don't protect them very well or punish men for sexual crimes against them very consistently. Many of these improvements have been embarrassingly recent. Misogyny is not exclusive to Muslims.
(That doesn't mean i think it's acceptable- but again, you need the right causes to get the right results).

Khandro, I'm not sure what point you are making with your reference to Ruth Ellis. It seems reasonable to me that the justice system should treat men and women equally. I am not in favour of the death penalty by the way.

Answer; I guess never. But when it comes to a woman being stoned to death, or being 'hanged by the neck until dead' (our society, 20th century), it seems to be only a few year's, and little difference.
Actually there is a macabre logic in the former, in that like the firing squad, or the death of Caesar, no single person bears the full responsibility. I condone neither of course.

Ratter- it was I who was personally insulted by Naomi first who called me (and others) 'apologists'. I addressed the mater politely with her initially and got nowhere, so I'm afraid if people sink to that level of rudeness and stupidity then they will be getting something similar back in future. You also called followers of Islam 'disgusting', so frankly I find it a bit rich that you accuse me of being rude.It seems people are happy to dish it out but not so thrilled when they get their own behaviour traded back to them. I would like an intelligent debate, not mud slinging and hysteria but sadly it seems impossible once some people join in, and they think they can insult others without consequence. I'm afraid that's not the case and if some people don't like it then I'm afraid that's unfortunate.

The prevalence of this sort of sickening behaviour within Islam is surely noteworthy, but it's hard to say that it's significantly worse in Muslims as opposed to any other group. Granted it might be now but then acts of barbarism on an equal or even greater measure were performed by other religious groups in the past. Entire rival civilisations were wiped out if they didn't conform to the right religion (although accidental diseases might have helped). The problem then is that Islam seems to be stuck in a medieval view of the world, which thankfully most of the world left behind a long time ago. The result is that those stuck in the past stand out more.

At the moment, such psychopaths may be more prevalent within Islam than any other religion or creed, but in part this is probably a historical accident. It will change in the long run, and then some other equally hideous philosophy will take its place.

I don't really understand why there's any argument here. Regardless of what might have happened in the past and what may happen in the future there can be no doubt that Islam is responsible for most of the trouble and barbaric behaviour we see in the world today, can there? (rhetorical question)
